Dorry Knife, Made from Ram's Horn

The Dorry takes its name from the doris—the light rowboats that cod fishermen would launch from large sailing ships off the coast of the Newfoundland Banks. This folding knife, designed in 2008 by T. Kayo, reflects this maritime heritage in its silhouette: a brushed-finish steel blade with a downward-sloping tip.

The ram’s horn handle is what gives the Dorry its unique character. The material, naturally veined and slightly translucent depending on the light, is never exactly the same from one knife to the next. It offers a firm, comfortable grip, and its warm hue contrasts with the understated elegance of the brushed blade.

Made in Thiers using the traditional craftsmanship of Auvergne cutlery, each knife is assembled with screws and features a ground-in locking notch for a reliable closure. An individual serial number, the designer’s signature, and the Dorry logo appear on each piece—markings that make the Dorry a unique and traceable item, a far cry from the anonymity of mass production.
