Tomates
You'll blush with pleasure as you watch your tomatoes grow.
Description
Originally from South America, the tomato belongs to the Solanaceae family (along with the potato and eggplant).
Introduced to Europe in the 16th century by Spanish explorers, it quickly became an essential part of our diet, not least because of the wide variety of species (around 4,000) that make up the family.
Because of its origins, the tomato thrives in the heat, loves prolonged exposure to the sun and has a poor tolerance of low temperatures.
Whether raw or cooked, the choice of variety determines its use in cooking: stuffed, in salads, to munch as an aperitif or in gazpacho!
