The symbolic knits of the Irish sweater
The Irish sweater is known worldwide and was born in the Aran Islands in Ireland, land of farmers and fishermen with a harsh climate. A garment that was therefore designed to protect from cold and moisture.
In the early twentieth century, each family in the Aran Islands had a unique geometric pattern for their sweaters. In the event of a death at sea, an inspection of the sweater could determine which family the drowning person came from.
