Terracotta birdhouse

This birdhouse takes its shape from the round clay birdhouses of the 17th century - a simple, effective form. It is handcrafted at the Vogelpot pottery in Maurik, Holland, using traditional pottery skills that are reflected in the material itself.

Terracotta is naturally suited to outdoor use: it's weather-resistant, breathable, and develops a patina over time that blends effortlessly into the garden. The nesting box is fixed to the wall, with a small hole for a twig to slide into, to act as a perch at the entrance. Choose a quiet spot out of reach of cats, with the exit directed away from the rain.
