The Thaumatrope an optical illusion game
Do your eyes play tricks on you sometimes? That's exactly the effect you want.
The thaumatrope is a very popular toy since the 1800's. It consists of two images glued back to back and attached to an axis that is rotated at high speed, giving the impression that there is only one image.
Description
The scientific principle behind this game is called retinal persistence. What happens is simple: the images change so quickly that the eyes and the brain do not have time to see each image in turn. The brain still has the first image in mind when the visual information about the second image reaches it. As a result, the brain superimposes the two images to become one.
