Hand door knocker in brass
A jewel of French craftsmanship for the front of the house.
Description
Until the 18th century, door knockers - often simple cast-iron rings - were only used on the doors of religious buildings.
From the 19th century onwards, they became an ornament on private doors which, under a practical aspect of signalling the arrival of a visitor, made it possible to assert one's authority and put forward an ideology or message to those who would come to tread on the threshold of the house.
Here, made of polished brass by a French manufacturer, this doorknocker takes the form of a woman's hand, dressed in ostentatious jewels on a lace sleeve.
This type of door knocker is typical of the Mediterranean region, symbolizing the moral, material and intellectual domination of the house's inhabitants. In some regions, it also serves as a reminder of the protection given to a place by the hand of Fatma.
Whichever symbol you decide to highlight with this artifact, this brass hand will magnify your front door and allow your impromptu visitors to make their presence known.
Care instructions:
The golden color of polished brass remains brilliant over time with regular maintenance using black soap and baking soda or our brass renovator.
