Description

Cicada in ceramic, the symbol of Provence, handmade in the workshops of a historic Provencal earthenware maker.

Louis Sicard's ceramic cicada, in the 11 cm size, to hang on the wall or set on a piece of furniture. It is the object given in Provence as a good-luck charm.

It is made by hand in the workshops of the Louis Sicard faience factory in Aubagne, near Marseille, in glazed ceramic. Length 11 cm. Made in France.

It needs no upkeep: a dry or slightly damp cloth is enough. Outdoors, protect it from frost, which can crack the glaze.

The first faience cicada was modelled by Louis Sicard in 1895, in Aubagne. Perched on an olive branch, it carried the motto “Lou Souleù mi fa canta”, the sun makes me sing. The model has been copied everywhere since, but the Aubagne factory still produces the original.
