Set of 6 Blue Paper Steel Carving Knives
Description
Six blade profiles in a single set: straight cuts, bevels, detail work, relief carving. Everything you need to get into wood carving without gaps, whether you're starting out seriously or rounding out an existing kit.
The blades are hand-forged in Miki, in Hyōgo Prefecture, a region of Japan with a tradition of precision toolmaking stretching back several centuries. The steel is Aogami, known as Blue Paper: a high-carbon steel that reaches a hardness of around 62-63 HRC. At that level, the edge can be honed extremely fine and holds its sharpness well between sharpenings, which makes a real difference to the pace of work.
Being a non-stainless carbon steel, a little care is needed: dry the blades after each use and touch them up on a whetstone regularly to keep them in good shape over time. Simple maintenance, and part of what it means to work with a proper tool.
The set comes in a roll-up storage pouch: all six knives are protected, organised and ready to carry together. A coherent, ready-to-use starter kit that also works well as a gift for an experienced carver.
