Description
This is how salt and pepper used to reach the table: in a little dish you set down between plates and pass around as the meal goes on. Made in Provence, it comes from the days when you seasoned by pinching with your fingers, with no grinder and no gadgetry.
Louis Sicard's workshop makes it by hand for Maison Empereur, and each piece carries the small irregularities that come with that.
It's made of unglazed raw earthenware and measures 11.5 cm (4.5 in) long. Each of the two little wells is 5 cm (2 in) across, easy to pinch from and compact enough to sit on the table without crowding it.
