Japanese Wood and Soft Metal Mallet 170 g
Description
This small mallet is made for work that calls for restraint: striking Japanese wood chisels, fitting joints, adjusting hand planes. Its value isn't versatility, it's the accuracy it makes possible where a standard mallet would be too aggressive.
The soft metal striking face does real work here: it absorbs impact and protects the hooped handles of Japanese chisels, which can't take the hardness of ordinary steel. The handle, turned from Japanese white oak, gives a dense, secure grip that doesn't slip even after a long session at the bench.
At 170 g with a 32 mm (1¼ in) diameter head, it stays light and responsive, sparing your hand over time and allowing repeated, measured strikes without fatigue building up. That's exactly what makes this size useful: enough weight to have an effect, light enough to keep control.
Made in Japan by a manufacturer founded in 1866, it belongs to a tradition of fine toolmaking where the care taken shows in every detail.
