Japanese Pruning Shears 200 mm (8 in), SK85 Steel
Description
SK85 is a JIS-standard carbon tool steel, the same grade used for industrial cutting and punching blades. On a garden pruner, it gives you a hardness and wear resistance that common stainless steels can't match. The hardened blade slices cleanly through green wood and stems, and it holds its edge well past what most gardeners are used to.
At 200 mm (about 8 in), the size is built for precision. It's nimble enough for flowers, fruit and thin shoots, yet sturdy enough for regular use. Keen home gardeners and professionals who prune every day will both find it a comfortable length.
When the edge finally dulls, resharpening takes no special skill: SK85 responds well to a whetstone and comes back to a fine edge easily. Routine care comes down to a light coat of oil after each session, which is enough to keep rust off the blade and keep the tool going for years.
