Description
The salt shovel is a small beech wood scoop, turned from a single piece, that stays in the salt pot to take and measure out a pinch without putting your fingers in. Its bowl holds 7.5 ml, about a teaspoon and a half.
It is made of beech, with a short handle and a turned ring that sits between two fingers. Its channel shape lets you pour neatly into a pan or over a dish.
It works just as well for sugar, coarse salt, spices or bath salts. Rinse it under a trickle of hot water after use and dry it straight away; don't leave it to soak or put it in the dishwasher, as the beech would swell and eventually split.
Over time, the wood takes on a honey colour.
