Description
A footed glass mug with a handle, slightly flared rim, the lower part of the cup marked with ribs. It is the mug for café crème and hot chocolate in a brasserie, the one that lets you see the colour of the drink. It also serves for a tea or a mulled wine.
It is pressed glass, made in France by La Rochère, in Passavant-la-Rochère in Haute-Saône, a glassworks that has been working glass since 1475 and describes itself as the oldest in France still in operation. Machine-pressed glass gives this crisp relief on the ribs and a thick wall that stands up to daily use.
It is dishwasher safe. For a very hot drink, pour slowly rather than all at once, and do not set the cold mug down on a scorching surface: pressed glass is sturdy, not tempered.
