An old-fashioned fly swatter, 52 cm long, with a head of fine mesh fabric mounted on a wire frame and a turned wooden handle. It deals with flies, mosquitoes and gnats in one sharp blow, without aerosols or insecticide.

The mesh head lets air through: it does not push the insect away before impact, which is what makes it more effective than a solid swatter. Old-iron grey fabric edged with an off-white binding, wooden handle. Made in France. Total length 52 cm.

Strike with a short, sharp flick of the wrist rather than wide swings that move the air and warn the fly. Rinse it in cold water and wipe it dry; avoid leaving it outside in the rain. It hangs on a nail by the kitchen door, where it is needed.
