Crackle glass carafe
Due to new U.S. regulations, this item cannot be shipped to the United States.
Description
The crackle glass carafe serves water or wine at the table, with that web of fine cracks held within the glass that catches the light. It comes in three sizes, 25 cl, 75 cl and 1 litre: the small one for one person, the large one for the whole table.
It is made in France. The crackle effect is obtained by plunging the still-hot piece into cold water, then reheating it: the cracks close up on the surface and remain visible inside. The wall is smooth to the touch and sturdier than it looks.
Wash it by hand in warm water, with a bottle brush for the bottom. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and leave it to dry upside down on a rack.
The technique has been known in Murano since the 16th century. Empty, it also makes a vase.
