The aluminium chip salt shaker is the model used in chip shops and snack bars: a cylindrical body, a threaded neck and a wide pierced cap that showers salt over a cone of chips or a plate. It does just as well at home for salting chips, crisps or a salad.

It stands 17 cm tall and 8 cm across, in raw aluminium, matt, with no paint or coating. The cap unscrews for filling, and its flared shape lets you salt a wide area in a single movement.

Fine salt flows better than coarse salt, which blocks the holes. Aluminium does not go in the dishwasher: wash it by hand in hot water and dry it straight away. If the salt takes on damp, empty the shaker, dry it thoroughly and put a few grains of rice in the bottom.
