Sliced Marseille soap
Genuine Marseille soap, 72% olive oil, made in Provence for more than a century, in a practical shower slice version.
Description
The first soap maker is recorded in 1370. Its ancestor is undoubtedly the soap of Aleppo in Syria based on olive oil and laurel. The first Marseille soaps were made from the ashes of the salicorne, a delicious aquatic plant found in the salty waters of the Mediterranean.
It is an edict of Louis XIV, signed by the son of Colbert, who in 1688 dedicated the Marseille soap to olive oil by limiting the appellation to soaps made in this region rich in olive trees. Later on, the appellation was extended to other oils such as palm or copra oil. The latter are much more aggressive for the skin, palm and copra based soaps are white and are used for washing hands and clothes. For the skin, we recommend you to use only green soaps, with at least 72% of olive oil.
